Election Commission Board Opening

The City of West Branch is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Election Commission.  The Election Commission is a three-person board consisting of the City clerk and two registered electors of the City.  Each Commission member serves a two-year term commencing on July 1 of every odd numbered year.  There is no maximum term limit.  Commission members receive a stipend of $25 per meeting.  Applicants are asked to apply by June 29th at 4:30 pm. 

Some of the duties regularly handled at the meetings of the Election Commission include:

  • Appointing Precinct Inspectors (Poll Workers)
  • Public Accuracy Testing of Voting Machines
  • Precinct Changes/Consolidation of Precincts

Meetings are open to the public. However, the Election Commission does not hold regularly scheduled meetings, but instead calls several special meetings in the time leading up to an election

Suggested qualifications for an Election Commissioner include:

  • An interest in local, State, and Federal elections.
  • A willingness to attend meetings as required
  • A willingness to attend extracurricular meeting and training seminars related to election issues.
